The renewable energy sources are a subject, which is taken into consideration as a serious business initiative on behalf of the management of Risk Engineering, Ltd.
As a tradition, special attention is paid to the hydropower engineering, which includes designing and construction of new facilities, as well as rehabilitation and reconsideration of the existing hydropower projects. Risk Engineering has its own methods for the seismic risk assessment of hydropower projects, which is applied for the most part of the largest dam lakes in Bulgaria, such as the dam lakes “Vacha”, “Kardjali”, “Studen kladenetz”, “Beli Iskar”, etc. Risk Engineering has designed a number of small hydroelectric power plants (HPP), e.g. a project for a small HPP (5.6 MW) is currently in implementation on a technological channel for used water for Kozloduy NPP cooling. The commissioning date of this HPP is 2009. Risk Engineering is a main subcontractor of the Austrian consortium VATECH - PORR for the expansion of HPP “Studen kladenetz” (designing, construction and installation of one 16 MW turbine and one 1.3 МW turbine on ecological water). This project will be completed in the end of 2008. Risk Engineering is a consultant of the companies Alpine Mayreder Bau and VATECH at the realization of the largest hydropower project in Bulgaria - “Cankov kamak”.
During the last years serious achievements have been made in the planning of large wind power parks. Risk Engineering has at its disposal own measuring installations for assessment of wind potential in the North-eastern part of Bulgaria and in the region of Smolian – Devin. Risk Engineering takes part in several initiatives with shared participation for designing and construction of wind parks. The first wind power park of Risk Engineering together with partners will be built in the region of North-eastern part of Bulgaria during the period of 2010 to 2012.
Only a few Bulgarian companies are experienced in construction of photovoltaic installations and Risk Engineering, Ltd is one of them. The roof of the Company’s office is built with an integrated photovoltaic installation, according to a project of Risk Engineering, with a total power of 52 KW, which makes it one of the biggest installations of such type in the South-eastern part of Europe. Risk Engineering develops projects for installation of photovoltaic installations in the South-eastern region of Bulgaria.
