EQUIPMENT PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF THE SAFETY SYSTEMS IN CASE OF AN EARTHQUAKE IMPROVEMENT OF THE SEISMIC STABILITY OF SAFETY SYSTEMS’ EQUIPMENT

The project has been prepared on Measure 21231 and Measure 19122 of the Modernization Program for Units 5 and 6 of Kozloduy NPP.

The objective of Measures 21231 and 19122 of the Modernization Program is to increase the stability of the safety systems equipment in case of seismic loads by bringing them into compliance with the modern requirements for safety of NPP in the earthquake impact conditions.

Investigation, expert assessments, computer (numerical) modeling and static and dynamic analysis of the equipment in the conditions of the respective normative seismic action have been included in the scope of Measure 21231. As a result of the activities performed on the Measure, the equipment elements that need reinforcement have been defined, and the type of reinforcement has also been defined.

Within the scope of Measure 19122, the development of technical and detailed designs for reinforcement of the equipment, for which the analysis on Measure 21231 has indicated insufficient stability in case of seismic action, has been included.

As a final stage of Measure 19122, Risk Engineering Ltd. has provided the execution of Designer’s Supervision during implementation of the construction and installation works and the development of as-built drawings.

As a result of both measures, a high stability of the safety systems equipment of Units 5 and 6 of Kozloduy NPP in case of seismic loads has been achieved in compliance with the most modern requirements for safety of NPP.
