Conventional energy
Directorate “Conventional Power Engineering and Energy-saving Technologies” (CPE and ET Directorate)
The main activity of the CPE and ET Directorate is related to the equipment modernization in the Bulgarian TPP with the purpose of increasing of the technical and economic working indicators, as well as rising of the reliability in operation.
Another basic activity of the Directorate is related to the plants’ operation setting in conformity with the new ecological standards and regulations approved by the Bulgarian and European legislations.
In its work, the CPE and ET Directorate pay serious attention to the energy-saving technologies. This is connected with the basic tendency for rising in the price of the fuels and electrical energy. A purpose of priority in this field is the development and implementation of projects for construction of co-generating power capacities with combustion of natural gas.
At the same time, the thorough energy audits are carried out and the results thereof, as a rule, are used as a basis for the new investment projects.
Parallel with its main work on the Bulgarian TPP the Directorate maintains close relations with the mine-extractive and industrial enterprises, where investment projects are developed and implemented.
It is typical of the CPE and ET Directorate activity to strive for implementation of full engineering for every project, beginning with the analyses and designing, deliveries, installation, and finishing with turning over for operation with Act 16 and Permission for use.
Using the working knowledge, as well as the great scientific, management and practical experience of its personnel, the CPE and ET Directorate has successfully joined as a consultant in the most significant investment projects implemented by foreign investors in the field of Bulgarian power engineering. Playing its part thereof, Risk Engineering, Ltd supports the interests of the Bulgarian TPP with dignity, as well as successfully opposes to the foreign companies and concerns.
Risk Engineering, Ltd and the CPE and ET Directorate in particular, are desired partner by many leading foreign companies for joint implementation of large-scale projects. We have a successful partnership with many leading companies in the field of power engineering, such as: “Worley Parsons” – USA, “Schneider Electric” – France, “Siemens” – Germany, “Power machines” – Russia, etc.
The CPE and ET Directorate makes progress and develops its activity with a great success as it sets a strong foundation by involving and enrolling young specialists straight from the University. With the assistance of the colleagues who are skilled, well trained and have gained industrial experience, they rapidly acquire the specific character of their work and take their own way of professional growth and progress.
Some projects represented below describe best the activity of the CPE and ET Directorate during the period from 2000 to 2008:
1. Installation of a new turbine К-165-130 in TPP “Maritza – East 2”, where the investment in a new capacity is one order lower compared to the construction of a new plant, plus additional power of 20 MW by the improved technical and economic features of the new equipment.
2. Modernization of the control systems of turbines К – 210 – 130 in TPP “Varna”, TPP “Maritza – East 2” and TPP “Bobov dol” – total number of 6. By the implementation of this project, a considerable capacity from the existing TPPs has started to work on a qualitative new level and has actively joined in the adjustment of the energy system loading.
3. Designing, delivery, installing and commissioning of the electro-filter No.4 to the 365 t/h boiler in TPP “Ruse”. The main result of the project implementation is the assurance of dust emissions in real industrial conditions below the admissible norm and assurance of normal operation of Unit 4.
4. Designing, delivery, installing and commissioning of the electro-filter No.7 to the 220 t/h boiler in TPP “Ruse”. The dust emissions attained below the admissible norms are a warranty for the possibility of long-term operation of the boiler.
5. Construction of a co-generator in the Multi-profile Hospital of Active Treatment in the town of Targovishte. The co-generator constructed thereof generates electrical and thermal energy on extremely competitive prices; besides, it is able to operate independently “on island” by ensuring emergency power supply of the hospital.
6. Reconstruction of the substation No.7 in “Maritza-East” Mines, which ensures reliable power supply of the main mining equipment and has solved an important industrial cycle within the mines.
7. Designing, delivery, installing and commissioning of actuating stations in the “Maritza-East” Mines - total number of 7. The new actuating stations have increased the reliability in operation of the main equipment in the mines and at the same time the new electrics’ high technical and economic features realise savings of electrical energy.
8. Detailed design for replacement of relay protections of Unit 3 and Unit 4 in TPP “Maritza-East 2”. The implementation thereof has ensured a new generation of electrics, which is synchronized with the new generating capacities and ensures a reliable operation of the Units reconstructed. The Project implementation illustrates a skilful and competent combination between the TPP requirements and the capacities of the equipment delivered by various foreign companies.
9. Full engineering for replacement of the Switch gear – 0.4kV – TP1 – TP8 to the Coal Handling Unit in TPP “Maritza-East 2”. The Project implementation will ensure a reliable operation of one of the main workshops in the TPP, as well as, it will ensure considerable savings of electrical energy.
10. Consultant of the owner for a project called “Rehabilitation of the Units 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Power-plant “Maritza-East 2” and construction of systems for desulphurisation of Units 1 – 2 and Units 3 – 4, increasing of the power of Units 5 – 6 and other components as well”. The project complexity has provoked Risk Engineering, Ltd and the Company has successfully managed with these challenges by mobilizing all of its potential in the person of its engineers: thermal-power engineers, electrical engineers, on I&C engineers, civil engineers, etc. Our specialists showed great erudition, technical and language knowledge, which placed them on an equal level with the foreign specialists. Risk Engineering, Ltd has successfully opposed to the main Contractor of the Agreement – the Japanese Concern Mitsui & Co., Ltd – and contributed to the real improvement of many technical solutions and mostly to the real savings from the large investment project.
